Through the Environmentalist of the Year Awards, ECOS honors local leaders who have had noteworthy success in achieving action on climate change, preserving habitat, promoting transit-oriented development, and advocating for clean air and against sprawl.

Release of Preliminary Public Review Draft of the Sacramento Climate Action Plan

From the City of Sacramento:

The Community Development Department is pleased to announce the release of the preliminary public review draft of the Climate Action Plan (CAP) on July 1, 2022.

This document will be circulated for a 30-day period, several months ahead of the release of the full Draft Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, Draft 2040 General Plan and Draft Master Environmental Impact Report this fall, which will be circulated for 45 days. This approach will allow the community to have advanced review and provide comments on the draft measures to reduce the City’s greenhouse gas emissions. The document is posted on the project webpage and can be found directly here.

Following release of the preliminary public review draft Climate Action Plan, the Sacramento City Council will hold a workshop to discuss additional potential actions that can be taken to achieve carbon neutrality in advance of the CAP’s target date of 2045. This City Council workshop is scheduled for August 16, 2022.

Comment period extended: Draft 2022 Progress Report on California’s Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act is now available for public review and comment through July 14, 2022

California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff released a draft report and associated data dashboard on implementation of California’s Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act (Senate Bill 375) for public review and comment on June 7, 2022.

The public comment period on the draft report and associated data dashboard has been extended and staff will now be accepting comments through July 14, 2022.

Sacramento County District 5 Supervisors seat: Hear what the candidates say about issues affecting Sacramento, including climate change, land use and transportation, equity, housing, business and the prospects for a clean energy economy – before the June 7 primary.

The race for the Sacramento County District 5 Supervisor seat is probably the most important race in the Sacramento region in terms of equity and climate. The County and City of Sacramento are the most populous areas within the Sacramento region and therefore, where they go, so goes the region.  

All District 5 candidates will be participating in the forum. They are (in alphabetical order) Pat Hume, Alex Joe, Steve Ly and Jaclyn Moreno. Moderators will be Capradio’s News Editor Kris Hooks, and Environment and Climate Change Reporter Manola Secaira.
