DO THE RIGHT THING
As planning, design, and community development professionals, most of us chose our professions because we want to “Do the Right Thing.” But when you’re working to solve complicated, multi-faceted challenges like climate change, the housing crisis, and structural inequities, with many stakeholders and limited resources and power, determining what that right thing is can be hard to define. And once defined, it can be even harder to implement. By bringing together diverse perspectives from various disciplines, industries, and backgrounds, this Speaker Series will explore this notion of what it means to “do the right thing,” how there isn’t one right answer, and how we can use these ideas to connect to a sense of purpose, challenge the norm, and collectively work towards a common goal.
All sessions will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Please check in prior to 9:30 a.m.

Elimination of City’s $1 million contribution to “RydeFreeRT” program for students
On May 7, 2024, ECOS submitted a letter to the City of Sacramento about the proposal to eliminate their $1 million contribution to “RydeFreeRT” program for students. Below is an excerpt from our letter.
ECOS (Environmental Council of Sacramento) opposes the City Manager’s proposed elimination of the City’s $1 million contribution to SacRT’s “RydeFreeRT” program for students. Student ridership has more than doubled since its inception five years ago, providing clean mobility options for students including internships and other opportunities. Our region consistently ranks in the top ten nationally for unhealthy air and RydeFreeRT has substantially reduced air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.

Dear Sacramento Investment Without Displacement (SIWD) Allies,
Please attend and/or send an organizational representative to the upcoming City Council Community Benefits Agreement Ordinance (CBAO) workshop happening Tuesday February 27, 2024 at 2pm at City Hall. SIWD partners will be attending this workshop and are calling all our coalition partners and community members’ voices to have a presence at this meeting.
If you are unable to attend or send a representative, please consider signing on to the SIWD letter (linked below) and/or submit your own letter on your organization’s letterhead by next Monday February 26, 2024.

WHY: The Sacramento Investment Without Displacement coalition has spent the last four years working with the City of Sacramento to establish a Community Benefits Agreement Ordinance for Council consideration. In the most recent and updated CBAO (view the posting here on the City’s CBAO website) most of SIWD’s demands to ensure that community voice is at the table have NOT been met nor included in the CBAO drafts. We are asking our SIWD partners, our trusted messengers, serving our most vulnerable, to help push these demands to be included in the City’s CBAO. Your leadership and support is critical to establishing a true CBAO that will include community voices at the decision-making table and ensure that benefits come back to the community in future developments.
Steps to attend the workshop or sign on to our SIWD letter:
- If you or someone from your organization will be attending the workshop and would like to join our SIWD partners for an in-person prep lunch/rally from 12:30-1:30pm right before the workshop at the Civic Thread office, please RSVP at this link here. We will walk over to city hall as a group and attend the CBAO workshop.
- Review the SIWD template letter and sign on at this link OR submit your own letter via your organization’s letterhead by 5pm Monday, February 26, 2024.

The 2040 General Plan
The General Plan is the City’s blueprint for how and where it will grow over the next 20 years. It contains policies that guide everything from the type of homes available, to jobs, transportation, environmental justice, public safety and much more. This major update has been focused on managing growth sustainably and equitably in ways that benefit the whole community, increasing opportunity and prosperity for all.
The Climate Action & Adaptation Plan
The Climate Action & Adaptation Plan (CAAP) establishes Sacramento’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target for 2030 and 2045, and positions Sacramento to reduce GHG emissions while adapting to projected climate change impacts.
