Youth Action Alert: Community Benefits Agreement Ordinance 5/9

Sacramento Investment Without Displacement (SIWD) is a coalition of social justice organizations, neighborhood associations, labor groups, residents, and community partners organized to support building healthy communities and affordable housing, preserving cultural traditions, and the stability of neighborhoods impacted by big developments. You’re invited to a youth action alert session to learn how to make your voice heard on behalf of your community. We will share more about the CBAO background, SIWD’s process, and why the youth voice is so important. We’ll also do a letter-writing workshop to help you submit your thoughts to the City by the May 16th Deadline.

The first 10 youth registrants will receive $20 Door Dash gift cards to support with dinner for the evening**. ** must be a youth (age 13-24), must be in attendance, and must live in the City of Sacramento to qualify.

Sacramento Earth Day 2023

Join us on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Southside Park, Sacramento, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Sacramento Earth Day is the largest Earth Day celebration in the Sacramento region, providing people with the knowledge and means to take care of our Earth. The theme this year is Grow Native. Our event is free and thousands of attendees are expected throughout the day.

California Energy Commission Opportunities

Greetings!

The California Energy Commission has two great opportunities for individuals looking to engage with their communities:

1. If you’re interested in advancing energy equity and environmental justice, please consider joining the Disadvantaged Communities Advisory Group (DACAG)!

a. The DACAG was created by Senate Bill 350 and is the principal advisory body for the CEC and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and advises the agencies regarding the development, implementation, and impacts of clean energy and transportation programs in disadvantaged communities.

b. More information about the DACAG and how to join can be found in the attached PDF titled, “DACAG Solicitation 20220411,” or on the CPUC’s DACAG webpage and the CEC’s DACAG webpage.

2. If you’re interested in transportation efforts, please consider joining the CEC’s Clean Transportation Program (CTP) Advisory Committee!

a. CTP Advisory Committee Members will provide input on the development of the Clean Transportation Program Investment Plan, which establishes program priorities and funding allocations.

Sierra Club Sacramento, Environmental Council of Sacramento, and the Sacramento Climate Coalition invite you to our Spring Social. Want to help improve transportation in Sacramento?

Do you walk, bike or roll using a wheelchair or mobility scooter? Or if you don’t, do you have thoughts on how to make transportation more effective?
Would you like to help improve our sidewalks, bikeways, crosswalks and access to transit?

If the answer is yes, here’s your opportunity to help.

The City of Sacramento is looking for community members to apply to be part of one of the three Sacramento Active Streets community planning teams.

The three planning teams will focus on North Sacramento, Fruitridge/Broadway and South Sacramento areas.

“Each plan will identify locations to improve walking, biking, and access to transit – like sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes and more,” said Leslie Mancebo, the City’s transportation planner. “A critical part of the planning process will be community engagement, and we are currently putting together these community planning teams to serve as local experts/advisors throughout the process.”

The City’s Active Streets plans are designed to improve safety and comfort for walking, biking, rolling and accessing transit.

Members of the community planning teams will advise City staff throughout the process to ensure that community voices and priorities are heard. As a member of a community planning Ttam, selected participants will be responsible for:

  • Attending up to seven approximately one-hour meetings between March 2022 and June 2023
  • Suggesting opportunities for community engagement events (e.g., farmers markets, school resource fairs, etc.)
  • Helping spread the word about the plans and about ways to get involved
  • Advising City staff to ensure voices of all residents are captured in the plan
  • Each planning team member will receive a $75 gift card for each meeting attended.
