The City has refined two master plan concepts into one preferred option plan for the Sacramento Valley Station. This plan will be implemented in multiple stages. While the plan’s full implementation is seen to be around the year 2040, earlier phases will be pursued to provide increased service.

The City is pursuing grants for the first stage of implementation, which includes a bus and mobility center along with relocated light rail platforms. The center will be in close proximity to drop-off and pick-up areas, and will provide:

18 bus bays with electric bus charging
Lower-level parking, prioritized for car-share and electric vehicles
Bike facilities
A new north tunnel access to a plaza in the Railyards Shops District is also planned for early funding pursuits. Later stages will include improvements to public space, private development opportunities and the eventual expanded concourse connecting to the Railyards.

The plan area will be designed for sustainable principles on the City-owned site under the framework of the International Living Futures Institute Living Community Challenge.
