With Shawna Protze and Jana Barkley
Effie Yeaw Nature Center
Thursday, June 12, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Cost: $20 for non-members/$15 for members
The skill of hunting with a trained bird of prey is one of the oldest living sports practiced around the world. From Sumerian Emperor Gilgamesh to the peregrine falcon restoration program, see how falconry has touched all of our lives throughout history. Join Master Falconer and author, Jana Barkley, with falconer and educator, Shawna L. Protze for an evening exploring falconry and how this ancient sport fits into the modern world. Jana will read an excerpt from her newly published book, The Apprentice, and discuss the sport that inspired her book and encompasses her life. Meet the birds used in the sport through history and in modern falconry today.
