The city of Sacramento will review two development proposals Tuesday that could bring more housing to the Natomas neighborhood.
The first proposal, known as the Birchway housing development, requires the city to re-zone nearly 13 acres of land.

Sacramento County is proposing to build a 25,000-resident community in Natomas that is surrounded on three sides by the city. So when neighboring city councilmember Karina Talamantes recently requested a public meeting for her residents, a responsive county should reflexively say yes.
Developers want to build thousands of new homes on property that’s outside the designated urban area.

Local environmental groups have filed a lawsuit opposing a sphere-of-influence amendment to the city of Sacramento that would enable an industrial project called Airport South to move forward.
The Environmental Council of Sacramento, Sierra Club Mother Lode Chapter and Friends of the Swainson’s Hawk are plaintiffs in the suit filed Monday in Sacramento County Superior Court, contending an environmental impact report for Airport South didn’t take a full accounting of possible impacts.
